It’s Time for Another Health Check! Business health check, that is!
Is your business feeling overwhelmed by changes in employment law? You’re not alone! Many changes to Minnesota’s employment laws were made in the last two legislative sessions. The following changes either went into effect in 2024 or are on the horizon:
Paid Leave Expansion
Paid Family and Medical Leave: Minnesota's Paid Family and Medical Leave Act expanded to include additional qualifying reasons for leave, such as caring for a family member with a serious health condition or experiencing domestic violence.
Sick Leave: Minnesota’s sick leave laws were amended to provide more flexibility for employers and employees.
Wage and Hour Updates
Minimum Wage Increase: In 2024, the minimum wage in Minnesota is $8.85-$10.85 per hour, depending on the size of the employer. Starting in 2025 all employers, regardless of size, will be subject to a minimum wage of $11.13 per hour.
Pay and Benefit Transparency
Job Listings: Starting January 1, 2025, some Minnesota employers will be required to include pay, other compensation, and benefits disclosures in job listings.
Other Notable Changes
Non-Compete Agreements: Minnesota further restricted the use of non-compete agreements, limiting their enforceability.
Pregnancy Accommodations: Minnesota expanded its pregnancy accommodation laws, requiring employers to provide certain accommodations for pregnant employees.
